What is GeoNetwork?

GeoNetwork opensource was developed by the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) to connect spatial information communities and their data using a modern architecture through the web enviroment. This architecture is based on the principles of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) and International and Open Standards for services and protocols (ISO/TC211 and OGC). It also provides a powerful metadata editing and search functions as well as an embedded interactive web map viewer. More information about GeoNetwork opensource is available on the GeoNetwork opensource Community website.

What is the Australian Government doing?

Australian Government agencies consider GeoNetwork as a suitable tool to facilitate implementation of the ANZLIC Metadata Profile. Version 1.1 produces ANZLIC-compliant metadata and is now available for testing. A copy for this aplication can be downloaded from the ANZ-MEST wiki.

Comments were provided to the International community last year and the response is available on the GeoNetwork wiki comments 16-55.
